Delete your forum or account
Two different deletions live in the dashboard: deleting a forum removes the whole thing, and deleting your account removes you. Both are permanent and immediate: neither has a grace period or an undo, so both ask you to type something back to confirm before anything happens.
This page covers the dashboard identity, the sign-in that lets you staff one or more forums. If instead you want to delete a portal member’s account: staff erasing someone else’s is covered in Erasing a member, and a member deleting their own in Members deleting their own account.
Deleting your forum
Section titled “Deleting your forum”Deleting a forum is an owner-only action. It hard-deletes everything the forum owns: every question, reply, vote, member, piece of uploaded media, pending invite, and API key. There’s no way to get any of it back afterward.
Where it lives
Section titled “Where it lives”Open Settings > Advanced. The danger zone sits at the bottom of the tab, and the confirmation is laid out right there on the page, not behind a button or a popup. Only the owner sees it; admins can reach the rest of Advanced settings but not this, and finance can’t reach the tab at all. The Billing page has a small “Delete this forum in Settings” link near the bottom (owners only) that takes you straight there and scrolls you down to it automatically (see Manage billing); Settings
Advanced is the only place the deletion itself happens.
Before you confirm: the blast-radius preview
Section titled “Before you confirm: the blast-radius preview”Before you can type anything, the danger zone shows you exactly what’s about to go: counts of questions, replies, members, media, pending invites, and API keys currently on the forum. Read it before you commit, there’s no preview after the fact.
Confirming
Section titled “Confirming”Type your forum’s subdomain exactly to confirm (the same one customers see in your portal URL). It has to match precisely, so there’s no way to delete the wrong forum by clicking through too quickly.
What happens next
Section titled “What happens next”The deletion is immediate: the forum disappears, and its subdomain is freed up right away. The audit record of the deletion itself survives even though the forum it describes no longer exists, so there’s a permanent trail that the forum was deleted and by whom, even though everything else about it is gone.
Deleting your account
Section titled “Deleting your account”Deleting your account removes your dashboard identity, the sign-in that lets you staff one or more forums. It doesn’t touch anything on the portals themselves.
Where it lives
Section titled “Where it lives”Open /account from the dashboard. Deleting your account is self-serve: you don’t need anyone else’s approval to do it.
If you own a forum
Section titled “If you own a forum”Account deletion is blocked while you still own any forum. An ownerless forum can’t exist, so you’ll need to transfer ownership or delete the forum first (see above) before you can delete your account. The /account page lists which of your forums are blocking you.
Forums you staff but don’t own
Section titled “Forums you staff but don’t own”For every forum where you’re an admin, agent, or finance teammate rather than the owner, deleting your account removes you from that team: your membership there is demoted back to an ordinary member account. You lose staff access to that forum, but nothing you posted disappears. Any question or reply you wrote while you were on that team stays exactly where it is, shown as “{your forum} Team” rather than under your name, since official answers belong to the forum, not to the person who happened to write them (see Erasing a member for more on how that attribution works). This is gentler than someone removing you from the team on the dashboard, which deletes your whole account on that forum: here only your dashboard identity goes away, your portal account on each forum stays.
Confirming
Section titled “Confirming”Type your account’s email address exactly to confirm. Once you do, your dashboard identity is deleted for good: you can’t sign back in with that email unless you create a new account from scratch.
