Connect a custom domain

Every forum gets a free subdomain ({your-forum}.myforumcat.com). On the Pro plan you can also point your own domain at your portal, so customers see forum.yourcompany.com instead.

Custom domains are coming soon: the underlying Cloudflare setup is still being finished on our side, so the section described below currently shows a “coming soon” notice even for Pro forums. This guide will be accurate the moment it goes live, no separate announcement needed.

Where it lives

Open Custom domain in the dashboard sidebar (/w/{your-forum}/domain), directly below Team. Visible to the forum owner and admin only, see Sign in to your dashboard for what every role can reach. On Basic, this page shows an upgrade prompt instead of the connect form.

Connect your domain

1. Type your domain (for example forum.yourcompany.com, or a bare domain like yourcompany.com) and click Connect.
2. We add it as a hostname on our side and hand you back the DNS records to add at your domain provider (a CNAME pointing at Forumcat, plus one or more TXT records that prove you control the domain).
3. Add those exact records at your DNS provider. DNS changes usually show up within a few minutes, but can take a few hours depending on your provider and your domain’s cache settings.
4. Click Refresh status any time to check progress. Once both the hostname and its SSL certificate show Active, your domain is live and serving your portal over HTTPS.

Your Forumcat subdomain keeps working the whole time, before and after your custom domain goes active, so there’s no downtime while you wait on DNS.

Disconnecting

Click Disconnect and confirm. Your portal falls back to your Forumcat subdomain immediately; the domain itself is unaffected until you remove the DNS records at your provider.

Notes

• One custom domain per forum. Reconnecting to a different domain replaces the one you had, it doesn’t add a second.
• A domain already connected to another Forumcat forum can’t be connected to yours, verify you’re using a domain (or subdomain of one) you actually control.
• Your own domain, and Forumcat’s own domains, can’t be used as a custom domain (they’re reserved).
